Maybe Baby™ mini microscope is an optoelctronic device, an individual medical diagnostic instrument for everyday use, by means of which, on the basis of saliva, it is possible to detect fertile and infertile days during the menstrual cycle of woman. With regular use, through observing dried saliva sample you can:
Maybe Baby ™ is a simple to use device and can be used by every woman, doctor – gynecologist – obstetrician – endocrinologist.
The phenomenon of saliva crystallization or arborization (‘fern’ phenomenon) was discovered in 1957. by C. Andreoli & Della Porta from University in Torino, Italy. This phenomenon has been confirmed in many scientific papers and in clinical trials all over the world and it has been applied in medical practice ever since. The method is based on the fact that in the first half of the menstrual cycle, woman’s estrogen level in saliva (and other fluids) gradually increases, reaching a maximum concentration on the day of ovulation, and then rapidly decreases. This leads to an increased concentration of sodium chloride solution (salt). Appearance of ferns in the dried sample of saliva is in fact a picture of crystallized salt. Appearance of, the amount of, and structure of the ferns corresponds to change in concentrations of estrogen.
During fertile days, dried saliva sample obtains appearance of fern leaves, while during infertile days saliva sample has structure without form, only dots. Fern structure shows up 3-4 days before ovulation and disappears 2-3 days after ovulation. The fern is the most prominent on the day of ovulation, which corresponds to the highest level of estrogen.
The biological properties of the egg and sperm (their survivability over time), knowing that fertilization can occur only on the day of ovulation and up to 48 hours after, indicates that the conception may occur in the fertile period which is estimated to be 6 days at mid-cycle (4 days prior and 2 days post ovulation). This period corresponds to the emergence of the fern structure. The period in which no ferns are detected in a saliva sample is considered infertile period.
For the purposes of determining the fertile and infertile days of the menstrual cycle, Maybe Baby ™ ensures technical solution (52x magnification with illumination) for user to observe dried saliva sample to determine if ferns are shown or not, and if so – at what amount of concentration.
